The βI diced up some chicken and started throwing seasonings at itβ dinner that actually deserves to be repeated.
In a Rush? π
Here’s the quick version, babycakes:
Chicken breast + butter + garlic salt + honey BBQ seasoning + Worcestershire + salt & pepper.
Dice the chicken into bite-sized pieces, melt a couple tablespoons of butter in a skillet, season that chicken like you mean it, add a splash of Worcestershire, and cook until the chicken is browned and reaches 165Β°F in the center.
That’s dinner.
Now, if you’ve got a minute, here’s how this one ended up earning herself a spot in The Recipe Box.
The Backstory
This is one of those recipes where I wish I could tell you there was some beautiful culinary inspiration behind it.
There wasn’t.
I had chicken breasts.
I needed dinner.
And apparently I decided the appropriate response was to start opening the seasoning cabinet. π
A little garlic salt. Some honey BBQ seasoning. Worcestershire because she’s been holding American kitchens together since somebody’s Mamaw was cooking. Butter because…well, butter.
And somehow it WORKED.
The best part is that this chicken doesn’t have to belong to one particular dinner.
Make a big batch and tonight it’s Honey BBQ Butter Chicken Bites with sweet potatoes and street-corn-inspired corn.
Tomorrow?
Throw the leftovers over rice. Put them in a wrap. Chop them smaller for a salad. Toss them into something else entirely.
Cook once, make that chicken earn her keep.
What You’ll Need
- Chicken breasts, diced into bite-sized pieces
- About 2 tablespoons butter
- Garlic salt
- Honey BBQ seasoning
- Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & pepper
And you’ll notice I didn’t give you seventeen perfectly measured teaspoons.
That’s because I didn’t use them. π
Season according to how much chicken you’re making and what tastes good to your family. Start lighterβyou can always add more.
How I Make It
Dice your chicken into roughly even bite-sized pieces so they cook at about the same rate.
Melt the butter in a skillet over medium to medium-high heat. Add the chicken and season with garlic salt, honey BBQ seasoning, salt and pepper.
Add a splash of Worcestershire and stir everything around so all those little chicken pieces get coated.
Then let them cook.
Don’t spend the entire time aggressively scooting them around the skillet. π Give the chicken a chance to sit against the hot pan here and there so you get those yummy browned edges.
Mine took somewhere around 20β25 minutes, but your cooking time will depend on how large you cut the chicken, how much is in your skillet, and your stove. Go by doneness rather than my clock: chicken should reach 165Β°F internally.
Then scoop and serve.
That’s it.
No marinade overnight.
No ingredient you bought for one recipe and will discover petrified in the back of the refrigerator six months from now.
Just easy, buttery, savory-sweet chicken that my family will actually eat.
And around here?
That’s enough to get you into The Recipe Box. π
