Calamity, Meet Jane

Y’all.

This darn countertop has given me nothing but trouble since we moved into this house seven whole years ago.

We have hard well water, and when I say the residue is insane, I mean insane. Around the sink and faucets especially, that cloudy, crusty buildup just kept coming back.

I’ve tried all kinds of cleaners. Store-bought cleaners. Homemade cleaners. Scrubbing. Soaking. Probably a few things I’ve blocked from my memory for my own peace.

It would get better.

But it never got clean.

And eventually, the buildup got to the point where it seemed like it didn’t matter what I did.

Then I met The Pink Stuff.

And apparently, the answer to seven years of aggravation was sitting in a little pink tub.

Here’s what I did

I started with The Pink Stuff Cleaning Paste.

I spread the paste over the problem areas of the countertop, especially around the faucets, and worked some up around the faucets too.

Then I left it alone for about five minutes.

Naturally, I grabbed a glass of iced tea and crossed my fingers.

After five minutes, I took a red Scotch-Brite pad, cut it in half, and got it nice and wet with hot water.

Then came the scrubba-dubba-dubbing.

I started gently. Some stubborn spots needed a little more elbow grease, so those got a more enthusiastic rub.

And listen—

The Pink Stuff may be pretty and pink, but she’s got some grit.

…which, now that I think about it, sounds a little like me.

⚠️ Before you go to town on yours

The paste is abrasive, and abrasive cleaners or scrub pads can scratch or dull certain counter tops, fixtures and finishes.

Don’t assume my counter and your counter are the same.

Check the manufacturer’s care instructions for your surface and cleaner, and test everything in a small, inconspicuous area first. Start gently. You can always scrub a little more—you can’t unscrub a scratch.

Round Two

Once I finished scrubbing, I grabbed a microfiber cloth and wiped off the first layer of cleaner and grime.

Then I went back with a wet rag and wiped up the remainder.

I did not spend forever trying to get it absolutely perfect at this stage, because I already knew I was coming back for round two.

I followed it with The Pink Stuff bathroom cleaner.

Yes.

This is a kitchen sink.

I am aware. 😂

I sprayed everything down and let it sit according to the cleaner directions.

Which meant there was really only one reasonable thing to do:

Another glass of sweet tea and a handful of popcorn.

And yes, of course I washed my hands first.

I came back, wiped everything down thoroughly, and—

Y’ALL.

LOOK AT THIS COUNTER.

THAT IS THE SAME COUNTERTOP.

All in, I probably spent around 30 minutes on it. And considering how many times I’ve cleaned this thing only to stand back and think, Well… that accomplished nothing—

I’ll take it.

The Jane Verdict

🎀 ROCKED IT.

Would I use this combination blindly on every surface in my house? Absolutely not.

Would I use it again on this counter after seeing what it did? Yep.

Would I still test a hidden spot first if I were trying it on something new? Also yep.

Seven years, y’all.

Seven.

Apparently my countertop and I just needed a little grace, a little grit…

and a whole lot of Pink Stuff.
